It has been common for patients to remain in hospital for up to 10 days after a hip replacement, but at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust we have been able to reduce this to 3 to 4 days for most patients. This reduces the risks of complications associated with prolonged hospital stay and improves patients’ sense of well-being.
As a team, orthopaedic surgeons John Britton, Geoff Stranks and Kevin Conn have optimised surgery by using minimally invasive techniques and use the most modern hip implants. However we have found that the most important factor is PATIENT EDUCATION; a patient who knows what to expect and has practised using crutches before surgery will mobilise more quickly.
The videos on this website will help you to understand what will happen as you go through every stage of the Rapid Recovery Hip Replacement programme.
